systemd is a new approach to boot up Linux systems. In order to make most of it, daemons might need some minor changes to interoperate with it in the most optimal fashion. Since SSSD is resposible for providing user information to other components, we should ensure SSSD works seamlessly systemd.
systemd home page: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd
Detailed info: http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/systemd.html - see esp. under "Writing Daemons"
We should wait until it proves to be useful and used in distributions.
milestone: NEEDS_TRIAGE => SSSD Deferred
Ticket #560 was a duplicate of this bug. Including its summary.
systemd (a replacement for upstart) was accepted into Fedora 14 as a Feature with plans to make it the default init service:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/systemd
The maintainer asked Fedora developers to provide a systemd init "unit files" as a replacement for SysV init scripts:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2010-July/138855.html
a) if you maintain a package which includes a daemon/service from the default install, expect a proposed unit file in bugzilla soon. Would be awesome if you could check it and add it to your RPM. Even better would be if you get it merged upstream. I have unit files the majority of these services. Ping me on irc (#systemd on fdo, I'm 'mezcalero'), if you wonder whether yours is one of them, and if you have questions.
