#2953 Provide offline password change
Closed: wontfix 4 years ago by pbrezina. Opened 8 years ago by simo.

It would be useful to be able to change the offline password in emergency cases (when you reveal the password by mistake).
The old password could be requested and stored with reversible encryption and when SSSD comes back online it could use that password plus the provided (new) password, to perform a password change.

While I think it is a good idea to be able to replace the offline password I think updating the server-side password might be tricky. E.g. the new password might be rejected by the server and if the update happens in the background we might not have a channel to inform the user about it. Additionally we have to synchronize this task with the task which try to get a fresh TGT when going online.

I'm afraid this request won't make 1.14 which is already too big. We will reconsider again in 1.15.
