The hosts map is not implemented in sssd because in most deployments the recommended way is to simply use DNS.
But in some high-security deployments it might be preferred to make host names only visible to specific authorized systems. Since e.g. LDAP servers implement fine-grained access control this could be achieved by retrieving LDAP host entries as a host map.
We already have ticket #359, but it's in deferred. We should move it up from deferred, but I'm going to close this one and add a backlink to #359.
Thank you for the suggestion about the access control and sorry we didn't notice we already have an RFE to add host map earlier.
