    tty fd, lest terrible wakeup storms ensue.

No joke. After ~4k keystrokes or so, the kernel will wake up ~1000 times a second trying to feed you input data you're never going to use since you're getting the events from evdev instead. This tends to keep your processor out of C3...


Oh, and. Tested on a pile of laptops in my cube by setting a weight on the keyboard and checking back in five minutes with powertop. Keyboard events still work, wakeup rate is like 300/s with the weight on and under 60/s with it off, instead of like 1000/s constantly.
