A new build of the firmware (that has dropped the ExcludeArch: ppc ppc64 ), is needed within the repositories because the re-introduction of iwl4965.ko within the the ppc/ppc64 kernels.
Since iwl4965-firmware in Rawhide (iwl4965-firmware-228.57.2.21-3) has drop one of the deprecated version of the firmware, Inheritance will need to be helped to go from F-8 to F-9 for this package.
This package need to be inherited in the F-9 repository (only) https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/iwl4965-firmware-228.57.2.21-1.1
iwl5000-firmware-5.4.A.11-3 , built from F-8, need to be inherited to F-9 and Rawhide https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/iwl5000-firmware-5.4.A.11-3
I've tagged iwl5000-firmware-5.4.A.11-3 for F-9 since it has gone out to stable on f8. The other update hasn't gone to stable yet so I haven't tagged it.
iwl4965-firmware has been submitted to the stable repository. (I thought I've already done it )
now that iwl500-firmware is within the repositories it could be added to the comps.xml as package installed by default. (only for Rawhide, probably). I guess it can be doable once the beta freeze is passed, (and the module usability has been proved).
