#5607 String freeze break (comps.xml)
Closed: Invalid None Opened 10 years ago by churchyard.

Hi,
I would really like to add 3D printing to comps.xml. I didn't know, that that shouldn't be done after the string freeze, so I only realized it now.

3D printing is an official feature of Fedora 19 and I would really like to see it in Anaconda (and other tools) as a group.

I've already sent an e-mail to devel and trans.

Attaching the patch (this is for rawhide), so you can see, how I intent to name and describe the group.

I do wonder if it makes sense as an option in each desktop group, as opposed to just in the developer workstation. In terms of size, it's about 8MB of combined packages?
Note that it appears to be openscad-MCAD, not openscad-mcad.

openscad-MCAD corrected, thanks for noticing.

The problem I see in adding this to developer workstation is that 3D prinitng is not meant just for developers. Also for designers, etc.

Fair point. I just wonder what percentage of the people installing just a desktop (as oppposed to workstation or design suite) have the hardware, but as long as it's just an option, not a huge deal.

OK, so it's ready in F20 and I need an approval for F19, because of the string freeze.

I've sent e-mail to trans@ and rel-eng@ according to that page.

OK, got two pluses on trans@ mailing list, closing this here.
