#3474 include usb_modeswitch by default
Closed: Invalid None Opened 14 years ago by sundaram.

usb_modeswitch is required by a number of popular broadband net connections and one example is

We need to include it by default to provide a better experience out of the box

I don't see how this is a rel-eng task.

rel-eng is responsible for deciding what is the default via base/core groups in comps and I have filed and processed such requests via rel-eng before (fpaste for example) If something changed in between I need to understand who is responsible now

Hit up the devel list.

I don't understand this change I post to devel list and who is responsible for the decision if not rel-eng? I was asked to file a ticket here before and I have been following that process and if there is a new method to follow can we get that documented somewhere?

This sort of cryptic replies are very unhelpful

1) That page does not explain the process of adding a default to base or core groups and I am supposed to change things directly?

2) I enquired earlier and was told to file a ticket and followed that process and here is how it was done:

If rel-eng team is going to give a different answer everytime it will only result in confusion

3) You claim that rel-eng is not responsible but dont explain who is responsible

If you want to add the package go ahead and do it or don't I am not willing to be shoved around

I'm sorry. I'm just annoyed that you're saying that it's rel-eng's job by a policy that, as far as I can tell, does not exist anywhere other than in your head. Having rel-eng maintain the comps is a really bad default.

1) That page does not explain the process of adding a default to base or core groups and I am supposed to change things directly?

packagers have the ability to change it directly. You'll note that in the last case you made the change, not rel-eng. I've updated the page. It does describe core (in short, 'don't'), and talks briefly about other changes
(generate consensus, consult the devel list, file a bug if unsure.)

2) I enquired earlier and was told to file a ticket and followed that process and here is how it was done:

Where were you told to file a ticket? If I said so, I'm sorry.

It exists in my head because I was TOLD that and rel-eng didn't say "not my responsibility" when i filed a request last time

I was told to do so in IRC and I only changed it after finding consensus from rel-eng and ultimately i believe it is this team's responsibility to maintain particular groups within comps (Not comps on the whole)

I am well aware I could change it but changing it arbitrarily wouldn't be a good idea and I only want to follow a consistent documented process and not be told different things at different times without any explanation

I will post to the list later

Thanks! Please point out other places where that wiki page is unclear, and I'll try to fix them.
