#1216 Unblock pgadmin3 for F-10 and devel
Closed: Invalid None Opened 15 years ago by robert.

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=1027623 says "BuildError: package pgadmin3 is blocked for tag dist-f10-updates-candidate". I don't know, why it is blocked, but the co-maintainer (see Cc) is still active and tried to submit a build for the package, failed with error above. Can you please unblock pgadmin3 for F-10 and devel so that we can get it into Fedora 10 and Rawhide again? Thank you.

Ticket was moved from Fedora Infrastructure to here as by the suggestion of njones. Original ticket was: https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/1096.

The problem seems to be the licence (Artistic 1.0) under which PGAdmin is distributed. Artistic 1.0 seems incompatible with the Fedora ideology, it has some weaknesses. The licence's authors corrected it and creates Artistic 2.0, but the Fedora team is struggling to convince the PGAdmin team to switch from their current Artistic 1.0 to an Artistic 2.0.
I hope it will get corrected soon, this is a problem for us all PGAdmin users

This is indeed the problem. This package is legally blocked until upstream moves off Artistic 1.0.

See: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Artistic1Removal#pgadmin3

I would not close this ticket -- AFAIK upstream is in the process of asking some lawyers for the resolution.

Re-opening. If nothing happens at upstream, I'll ask RPM Fusion for shelter... ;-)

Since Artistic 1.0 is not free enough for Fedora, I've created a review request for pgadmin3 in RPM Fusion. https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300 is the review request at RPM Fusion.

We can reopen this ticket, if pgadmin3 gets maybe re-licensed one far day. The bugzilla bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473748 is still open nevertheless.
