Before the current sponsor model has been introduced, ihmo I have had to become a proven packager first. Currently, there's no need for me, to become a proven packager. That would have effectively prevented me to become a package sponsor.

When I think one or the other person could become a packager, I have to look for a sponsor for that specific person.

You don't have to do matchmaking, but you do it nevertheless and you also guide new contributors, which qualifies becoming a sponsor on your own and sponsor the new contributor right away :)

It's been seven days now. I count six votes for and none against, for a vote differential of +6. The request is approved, and I have upgraded mrunge's packager group membership to sponsor status.
