#201 msuchy would like to become a contributor of Fedora Magazine
Closed: Fixed None Opened 8 years ago by msuchy.

Hi,
I would like to become a contributor of Fedora Magazine and regulary post updates about new interesting projects which appeared in Copr.

For last week I selected those projects, which I would like to refer:

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/rvokal/pidgin-indicator/
This plugin provides an Ubuntu Indicator icon, for use in the Plasma 5 desktop environment. Plasma 5 no longer provides a general purpose notification tray, so the standard Pidgin tray icon does not appear. The official Ubuntu alternative is an integration with their Messaging indicator, which consolidates status from multiple applications.

Umirr is an application for generating a geographically relative list of mirrors. The output is designed to be parsed by the mirrorlist parameter of yum repo configuration. It is designed to be as simple as possible. All configuration and data is contained in simple yaml files. The app does require geoip information to be passed to it via headers. Fortunately, this is very easy to do in nginx.

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/rhscl/
Community edition of RHSCL 2.0

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/dvratil/qt5/
Qt 5.5 RC packages
WARNING Qt 5.5 might have API/ABI changes that will break existing applications from Fedora repositories.

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/mtasaka/LXDE-next/
LXDE-next : trial update of LXDE components

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/mkosek/freeipa-4.2/
This is the official COPR repository for FreeIPA 4.2 releases and its dependencies on top of dependencies already in downstream repositories.

I think this sounds like a useful regular feature. It is important that the articles maintain a user focus. It's easy for complicated subjects like SCL or COPRs to become intertwined with jargon or concepts not familiar to most users and readers. However, editors should be able to help you and other authors tune the articles appropriately.

Hi, I've noticed this ticket is beginning to age - if you are still interested in contributing to the Fedora Magazine, I recommend performing the following steps:

  1. [http://fedoramagazine.org/logging-into-fedora-magazine-with-fas/ Log into the Fedora Magazine] and [http://fedoramagazine.org/writing-an-article-for-the-fedora-magazine/ draft up a pitch] explaining what you want to cover.
  2. Email the [https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing Marketing list] with a link to your pitch and ask for review.
  3. If you are available Thursday evenings at 22:00 UTC, tune in to the Magazine editorial meetings at #fedora-meeting on freenode.
  4. Once your pitch is approved, you can begin drafting up the full, complete version of your article for publication.

With that in mind, I vote to close this ticket and move future discussion about this to the mailing list or IRC in #fedora-mktg. Hoping to see contributions from you in the near future! :)

Closing ticket with above advice in mind.
