Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this ticket:

i don't think a harmless question about *nix commands is too much, but banning and kicking those involved seems harsh. i am not saying we should field all of them, but it's not like we get loads of questions in -social to begin with. and those which should belong in the #fedora channel are usually redirected there.

Please note other IRC nicks that are involved in this interaction:

EvilBob kicked kc8hfi and banned sybase for questions about use of the umask value.

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on this feedback:

lighten up a bit? it's simple stuff. keep redirecting the main questions to the #fedora channel. questions get asked in a real word social gatherings all time about work or the like. it happens in irc the same. no need to get all palpatine on them for it. kinda kills the social atmosphere when it's policed like this.

Any additional notes or logs:

i don't have any logs. feel free to ask EvilBob for his.

Thanks for your feedback!

after much deliberation, nirik finally submitted this answer:

proposal: 1. loosen up what is supported in #fedora, 2. Do not redirect support questions to social, 3. allow a moderate amount of technical discussion on -social, redirect if it turns into support.

all agreed on it. EvilBob (and jsmith) are both in agreement that warnings are good and will be given before bumping people for not taking the warning.

everyone ate bacon on it.
