My IRC nick is: Cysioland

Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket: I was trying to solve problem on #fedora. I left a bouncer so I could reboot while keeping the messages. But then EvilBob corrected me about excessive nick changes (away nick changer from Cysioland to Cysioland|OFF). I think it was excessive, because it was the same amount of spam as if parting and joining the channel instead of bouncing.

Please note other IRC nicks that are involved in this interaction: [SLB], he said that I'm right.

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback: EvilBob apologizing to me and not behaving like that again.

Any additional notes or logs: Will attach when asked, I was using a bouncer, so it's all logged.

Thanks for your feedback!

Parts and joins serve a function (telling people who care who has joined and left) and can be supressed for people who don't care on most any client.

Nick changes on the other hand, do not serve any purpose (anyone who cares if you are away can query you and see your status is away, settable from almost any client or bouncer) and cannot be supressed by most any client.

Imagine if everyone changed their nick on any event, the channel would be too noisy for anyone to get help.

Yes. It may annoy. But it serves a purpose. If not it, people would complain that I sit here idling and cluttering channel, also, it tells people that I'm not there, and they should contact me another way (imagine that #fedora isn't only channel @ Freenode).

Mark yourself away, That's all you need to do.

You can also mark yourself away then people would know you are not at your computer. We would rather you are idle then changing nicks all the time. Nick changing is annoying to many people and most ops. No one wants to know you are eating dinner, getting a shower, or anything else with your life that's what social media is for!!

This was discussed months ago, sorry it wasn't closed back then.
