Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket: User GapSpark was trying to insight hostility in the channel, help from channel ops was requested. nb who is not a #fedora op used his privileges on zodbot to kick the user.

Please note other IRC nicks that are involved in this interaction: mutk kk4ewt GapSpark nb

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback: op privileges on zodbot should be removed for all parties that are not ops for that channel. non-op (for that channel) nb should be suspended for improper use of ops.

Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, I think nb was trying to help here, but it just added to confusion. ;(

I've removed zodbot from the 'auto op' list, so it should no longer accidentally be left with ops.

I think nb meant well, but should refrain from actions like this moving forward.

Trying to help or not nb knows better. His abuse of the abilities he has using zodbot is not excusable. Actual operators for #fedora were active at the time.

zodbot being able to give people ops in #fedora or any of our other channels undermines the usefulness of the sig new operator process.

Yeah maybe I shouldn't have done it but at that time I didn't see any ops active until after I kicked him.

Bob: I think you are making a big deal out of nothing. If I filed a ticket every time I disagreed with something you did as an op, the trac would be filled with tickets. I know you don't like me but it'd be nice if we could still kind of get along.

You didn't see any ops active, other than the fact you were in a conversation with kk4ewt as it happened and mutk was active in both #fedora and #fedora-ops. It was 2 minutes and 18 seconds from the time I pinged using @ops until the time that mutk banned them using fedbot hardly enough time to justify drastic measures that are in violation of our policies. You did not use fedbot, because you do NOT have op powers in #fedora. This shows intent was involved in circumventing that. Had no #fedora ops responded, as is many times the case, Freenode has server ops to handle things.

This is NOT personal it is about zodbot having the ability to op people in our channels that should not be and about you abusing those privileges you have on zodbot. I rarely have to use my abilities as an op so for you to fill the trac with tickets, you would have to make things up and/or file multiple tickets for everything. Please don't make it personal.

Meeting 2012-05-24

Discussed this ticket, zodbot's abilities to get ops and grant ops has been removed from our channels.

I think all agree that it was a poor choice in actions on nb's part but the intent was appreciated.

My personal hope would be that nb not be so quick to act in a similar manner it only reflects poorly on the SIG.
