#284 Funding request for Ratnadeep Debnath
Closed: Invalid None Opened 12 years ago by rtnpro.

Please set the "Component" below to the correct event for your request.

Tell us the following:

  • What do you need covered? (Please estimate the costs in USD: hotel $X, travel $Y) hotel $200, travel $780 (approx.)

  • If we cannot provide a full subsidy, will a partial subsidy be helpful? (Yes/No?) No

  • If Yes, specify the minimum amount you need covered to facilitate your attendance.

  • What will you accomplish by being at FUDCon? (Please be as specific as possible, since this is the most important factor in granting requests.)

    I am a Fedora contributor ( ambassador, packager, developer). I work as a developer and QA at Transifex (www.transifex.net). I also contribute to other projects like Askbot, Dorrie, Ankur Bangla, etc.

    I, along with, ''Mahay Alam Khan'', will be giving a talk on '''Localization and how Fedora crowd sources its localization using Transifex'''. The aim of the talk would be make the attendees understand the importance of localization and how localization can be done in a cool way just like Fedora does it.

    Even after explaining the need and benefits of localization, there still remains a big question: "How do I i18n my software?" So, we'd also be conduct a '''hackfest on i18n and l10n'''. We'll show from the basics on how to internationalize a software (using examples from C, python , PHP, Java, etc.) and then how to l10n the software using Transifex, and easily repeat this process for every release cycle.

    With Mahay's experience in localization and my experience with building l10n tools, we'll do our best to rock at FUDCON KL 2012.

    FUDCON also gives an awesome opportunity to meet fellow contributors and newbies. It gives us an great platform to share each other's story with Fedora and FOSS. This helps to inspire others and be inspired.

  • If you are requesting airfare, include complete flight information such as flight numbers, desired departure and arrival airports, and times. Also let us know if you have specific time restrictions.

The travel expenditure of $780 is just an upper estimate. The sooner the tickets are booked, the lower will be the prices. Also, there are periodical offers to grab too. Attempt will always be made to get flight tickets at the best prices possible.

Hi,

can you also check out airasia.com, and see whether you can get a cheaper price by factoring this airline into your flight plan .. they dont have guwahati flight, but they do have flights to kolkata

thanks :)

Hi izhar,

Thanks for the tip :) I am now browsing through the various deals on flights. I will update this ticket with new travel details and better cost estimate.

Thanks,

Hi,

Here is an update of my travel details. I have searched high and low and found the following the best in terms of price and travel time.

'''Arrival'''

May 17, 2012, 12:40-13:55, Guwahati (GAU) to Kolkata (CCU), IndiGo 6E208[[BR]]

May 17, 2012, 17:35-00:10, Kolkata (CCU) to Kuala Lumpur(KUL), Air Asia AK1242

'''Departure'''

May 22, 2012, 15:35-19:25, KUL to CCU, Air Asia AK1241[[BR]]

May 23, 2012, 10:50-12:10, CCU to GAU, Indigo 6E207[[BR]]

There are no economic options for return on May 21, 2012, but on May 22, 2012. I will be reaching at our place of stay after midnight of May 17, 2012. I hope to that there is no communication difficulty from the airport to our place of stay. So, I will be needing accommodation for for 5 nights (17, 18, 19, 20, 21 of May, 2012).

'''Booking schema:'''[[BR]]

'''Round trip CCU<->KUL''', Arrival: 17 May, 2012, Departure: 22 May, 2012 from airasia.com[[BR]]

Promo offer: 92.09 * 2 = 184.18 USD [[BR]]

Regular price: 124.64 * 2 = 249.28 USD[[BR]]

as viewed on March 14, 2012

'''Round trip, GAU<->CCU''', Arrival: 17 May, 2012, Departure: 23 May, 2012 from http://www.skyscanner.co.in/flights/gau/ccu/120517/120523/airfares-from-gawahati-to-kolkata-in-may-2012.html [[BR]]

Price: 94 USD as viewed on March 14, 2012

'''Updated Information:'''
* Updated travel expenditure estimates:[[BR]]

Hotel: as arranged by organizers or an approx amount of 200 USD[[BR]]

Flight: 184.18 USD + 249.28 USD = 433.46 USD[[BR]]

Visa: 25 USD

  • Do you need a visa or other official processing before you can attend FUDCon? If so, approximately how long does that processing take?[[BR]]
    As already mentioned, it takes around 15-20 days. It'd be very helpful for the Visa application to have an invitation letter from FUDCON organizers or Fedora.

However, it seems that there is great rush for airasia.com offers. I am uncertain how long there will be seats available in the above rates or seat available at all.

Thanks,[[BR]]

There was a typo above, seems like GAU<-> CCU flight prices had been included twice :(.
Anyways, these are the new estimates.

Hi,

@KageSenshi, thanks for mentioning about VWTR (Visa Without Reference). However, I consulted with a travel agent and I was told that having an invitation letter from the FUDCON organizers will help a lot with the Visa process. I guess it wouldn't be difficult to send an invitation letter (to FUDCON KL) along with the flight tickets.

Highly appreciate your cooperation.

Thanks,

Hi,

@rtnpro, there were emails sent out to those who got approved for funding, requesting some personal details for flight ticket. Could you please reply to it as soon as possible?

Thanks!

Hi,

Any ETA when we'd be receiving the flight tickets and the invitation letter?

Thanks,

It seems that emails are not getting forwarded from rtnpro_at_fedoraproject.org to rtnpro_at_gmail.com lately. I have checked my Fedora account and even tried to send a test mail to my Fedora email account. I didn't receive the mail in my mail id. It used to work fine lately. Could you please ask Harish to send the invitation letter at <rtnpro at gmail dot com>.

I have already mailed Maverick the required info (passport scan, my details: address and phone). Do I need to fill it somewhere else too? It seems I don't have access to the spreadsheet url https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkpfWYQJkQB1dDN2T284ZVpJanB4WEdGMnEyU1pwSHc#gid=0
