Hi,

during FrOSCon 2011 I did a small talk about Func and how it is being used at Booking.com, a fast growing hotel website with a four digit number of servers all running pure open source software. This was a very impromptu talk as the original speaker had to decline on short notice.

The content however was very well received and people suggested, that I should flesh this out a bit and maybe repeat this at the India FudCon.

As FrOSCon only was very recently, I apologize for the late sponsorship request.

My aims for this FudCon would therefore be to

• Promote Func as it is indeed a wonderful tool for controlling more than one machine
• Host a hacksession on Func.

There are some features (e.g. delegation) which are very rough in Func. We (at Booking) have a quickly hacked up version of func which actually fixes many issues we see in a large scale environment with timeouts etc. Polishing it and submitting/applying it upstream would definitly be worth it.

Of there is some interest, I am also happy to host a session talking about Fedora/CentOS/RHEL in a larger scale environment, what challenges/issues we face, how we solved them, what kind of best practices we found etc.

• What do you need covered? Hotel 200USD, Flight 1300USD seems to be what's available on the market. Departure airport would be Amsterdam. I only did a quick search as Jared stressed I should get this ticket in quickly. Will do a more exhaustive search later.
• If we cannot provide a full subsidy, will a partial subsidy be helpful? Yes, I'll take whatever I can and then see if it works out.
• What will you accomplish by being at FUDCon? Please see above.
• Do you need a visa or other official processing before you can attend FUDCon? Visa applications by European citizens seem to be processed in less than a month.
