#167 Funding request for Truong Anh Tuan
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by tuanta.

  • What do you need covered? (Please estimate the costs in USD: hotel $X, travel $Y)
  • Travel cost
    • Return flight Hanoi - Milan - Hanoi: $878 (orbitz.com).
    • Return bus Milan airport: N/A.
    • Other local transportation: N/A.
  • Hotel: shared with/to Christoph Wickert.

  • If we cannot provide a full subsidy, will a partial subsidy be helpful? (Yes/No)

  • No.

  • What will you accomplish by being at FUDCon? (Please be as specific as possible, since this is the most important factor in granting requests.)

  • I met Pierros Papadeas first time in FOSS Asia 2010 in Vietnam last year. Although I have been a Fedora Ambassador for a few years, his active work convinced me to involve deeper in and contribute more and more to Fedora Project. Pierros himself introduced to me a new friend, Christoph Wickert. Christoph then sponsored me to be a Fedora package maintainer. And finally, my first Fedora package, ibus-unikey, a keyboard input for Vietnamese, has been out. After a long time working with Fedora Ambassadors EMEA friends (Pierros, Christoph, etc.), I would like to meet them in face-to-face.
  • On aprroval, this is also my first FUDCon since there is no FUDCon in my area (APAC) up to now. I can take this opportunity to learn more from Fedora fellows and bring those great experience back to make Fedora activities in my country (Vietnam) as well as APAC better.
  • Also, I can share our work and experience (building the FOSS community, organizing FOSS events, etc.) to Fedora friends in EMEA and all over the world.

  • If you are requesting airfare, include complete flight information such as flight numbers, desired departure and arrival airports, and times. Also let us know if you have specific time restrictions.

  • Yes. About 2 weeks.

  • Include any additional, relevant information.

  • Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any more information.

This ticket was approved in the August 16th subsidy meeting. We have agreed to pay for three nights in the hotel plus up to 630 Euros in airline tickets.

Thank you for your update. It should be a really good news to me.

I will book the air ticket and get the visa asap.

Hope to see all of you there.

Rgds,
Tuan

Hi Jared,

I have got some questions:

  1. Could you please send me an invitation letter to get the visa to Italy.
I am also asking the Italian embassy here for other necessary documents and information to get visa.

  2. How can I get the reimbursement for the air ticket?
In my last trip funded by Fedora (to Japan Linux Symposium Oct 2009), Max Spevack supported me. He gave me his credit card to charge the air ticket fee. How about this time?

  3. How can I book the hotel? Or it has been already booked by organizers?
If so, could you tell me the hotel booking information.

  4. As flight information provided, there is no budget flight on Thursday, September 29th (a day before the event). Air ticket at that day costs about $1,500. Then, I think I should fly one more day before, September 28th.
So, how about the hotel for that early day? I would like to know both hotel subsidy and hotel booking.

Thank you for all your support.
I will contact you later for further assistance.

P.S. I need this information asap to book the air ticket and get the visa. If you are too busy, you can give me another contact point.

Rgds,
Tuan

I have got response from Italian embassy in Hanoi [1].

They ask me to include hotel booking document in visa application form.
Could you please provide me that information.

Also, they ask to have invitation letter faxed directly to their fax number (+ 84 4 38267602), beside the original one included in visa application file (which I asked you to send me before).

Thank you for your support.

P.S. I am still waiting for your response for my previous questions.

Hi tuanta,

I'm going to purchase your airfare.

I need to know a few things:

1) Does your visa application require that the hotel be shown specifically in your name? Right now we have a group of rooms booked, but if we need it to be exactly in your name I can do that.

2) Have you received any invitation letter at all yet?

3) Do you need your flight information as well prior to obtaining a visa?

Please ping me online if you get a chance - I am rbergeron on irc.

One more question - when you visited the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, did they indicate that if you had the hotel booking papers, you would receive your Visa documentation soon? Or do we know how long that takes to receive?

Oh, it takes 2 weeks. I just read. :)

Great, thanks!

Actually, I am not sure. I just contacted them via email.

However, you should provide the information you have. If they need more information (e.g. with my name), I will tell you.

2) Have you received any invitation letter at all yet?

Not yet. Although, it's the most important document.

As soon as I receive it, I will bring all my bag to the Italia Embassy.

Also, please do not forget to fax it directly to the embassy fax number I provided.

3) Do you need your flight information as well prior to obtaining a visa?

Sure.

It takes about 1-2 weeks.

By the way, as response from Hanoi Italia Embassy via email, they need this information for visa:
1. Visa schengen request form (I will fill it)
2. 02 photos (already have)
3. Invitation letter (one copy should be faxed or mail directly to Hanoi Italia embassy fax number, another in my visa request file): (need your help)
5. Hotel booking (need your help)
6. Flight booking (need your help)
7. Health Insurance (actually, I do not know what this exactly is - I will ask them directly)
8. Passport (ready)
9. Visa fee: 65 EUR

Tuan
