In order to make #6474 work on Debian platforms, FreeIPA should include ipaplatform.debian subpackage. I talked to Timo Aaltonen. He is willing to push his ipaplatform.debian patch upstream.

Note that upstream doesn't plan to test with debian in CI after it is implemented so there is danger of regression with any new commit.
I suspect that this functionality would allow us to be better integrated and used by OpenStack and OpenStack developers. That in turn would lead to potential external contributions. If freeIPA client becomes a part of the OpenStack test suit we will get test coverage from there.
I think this is related to this PR - https://github.com/freeipa/freeipa/pull/373. Can someone confirm ?
