We have currently deprecated modifications of the local ranges so that it's more obvious they do not play a role so far.
However, these are being used in our tests to make sure that underlying code and DS plugin work properly (i.e. detect overlapping ranges).
We should introduce new tests that replace the lost coverage (i.e. perform code path that actually triggers the DS range plugin instead of bailing out in the framework).
