So far, only the second issue was accepted. It is rather an issue with automember plugin, not Web UI.
I agreed with Martin (in related BZ) that only the issue with error message ("Error is auto_member_rule with name "" already exists") is a valid one. So this is not a Web UI issue, reassigning to someone.
Patch which fixes it but breaks API (bad) wip-freeipa-pvoborni-0141-Automember-revolution.patch
Adding Automember rule was revised during FreeIPA 4.0 refactoring and migration to PatternFly (#3902). I revisited this dialog and and the list of group is searched and offered properly. When no group is selected, error is printed.
Metadata Update from @mkosek: - Issue assigned to pvoborni - Issue set to the milestone: FreeIPA 4.0 GA
