When removing an external host from a netgroup, that member still shows in output. The member is actually removing.

To reproduce:

# ipa netgroup-add --desc=ng1 ng1
# ipa netgroup-add-member --hosts=external.example.com ng1
# ipa netgroup-remove-member --hosts=external.example.com ng1

In the remove the host will still be listed in External Hosts. Do a show on the entry and you'll see it is gone.
