Currently, the only way to set up DNS in FreeIPA is to use the --setup-dns command-line flag. However, when running ipa-server-install interactively (i.e. with no arguments passed to the executable), the user should be prompted for whether they want to install DNS as well.
In my case, I performed the setup interactively, answering all the questions as they were posed to me, and then the installation started its LONG setup. I then had to wait a long time for it to complete before I could run --uninstall and try again.
For the record, this was FreeIPA 2.0rc3
As an aside you can run ipa-dns-install post-install to add a DNS server to IPA.
I think this should be covered in the ipa-server-install man page. Something like "you can install DNS later at any moment by running... see corresponding man page for the details".
Or something like. may be it is already there. Have not checked.
