#32 rpmlint maintenance
Closed: Fixed None Opened 13 years ago by tibbs.

rpmlint is currently a mandatory part of our packaging process, but due to differing schedules and, perhaps, goals, our guidelines and rpmlint's checks are a bit out of step. This leaves us with a situation where even after all (non-EOL) Fedora releases support something, packagers still refrain from using it because rpmlint complains.

In https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537430 some work has been done to enable multiple rpmlint configurations to be available in an attempt to work around the disconnect between modern guidelines and the rpmlint maintainer's wishes. Even though code is now present, someone needs to step up to maintain to maintain the various version-specific configuration files. The possibility was also raised of simply having someone take over maintenance completely.

I think it would be good if at least a couple of FPC members signed on to help maintain. Perhaps something could be arranged where basically all of FPC were comaintainers, or FPC itself simply maintained the package.

I believe this should also extend to rpmdevtools; we need to make sure that it at least generates specs which at all times correspond to the guidelines. Currently the python spec needs updating, and has since February, but there's a disconnect between our guideline changes and the maintenance of these packages.

spot is now rpmlint maintainer.
abadger1999 will request comaint with scop on rpmdevtools for now.
