#244 Bundling exception request for Cura
Closed: Fixed None Opened 11 years ago by churchyard.

This is a request to grant a bundling exception for Cura.

Cura includes Cura_SF, a fork of Skeinforge. Skeinforge is not a library, but an application, Cura includes heavily modified core of Skeinforge (without GUI).

Cura review request: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=901659

Skeinforge review request (approved): https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=863793

Note, that Cura originated as a fork of Skeinforge and the author of Cura says: ''"It might be better to see Cura as a fork of Skeinforge then as an application that uses skeinforge."''

The other important thing is, it is impossible to use original Skeinforge in Cura, as it communicates with the app differently. Cura_SF is also impossible to use as a standalone app to replace Skeinforge in Fedora.

I've asked the author of Cura to answer questions from https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:No_Bundled_Libraries#Standard_questions

Answers can be found here: https://github.com/daid/Cura/issues/335

Important parts:

  • ''"Right now'' [Cura_SF is] ''an integrated part of Cura. Cura cannot live without Cura_SF nor can Cura_SF work without some parts of Cura."''

  • ''"However, our "future plan" is to replace Cura_SF completely with our own solution, answering the "unbundle" question."''

I will try to provide any more information needed. Thanks a lot.

Is there anything I can do to help this move? Provide any more information? Thanks

Sorry this took so long to respond to. We reviewed this case and concluded that it is a full fork of skeinforge, and thus, no bundling exception is required.

You should take care to not conflict between the two packages though.
