Hello, I'd like to propose new guideline for our project - Dynamic Software Collections. Collections should provide more versions of same software in one distribution. Draft of documentation can be found on wiki: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SoftwareCollections Firstly, we were planning to push it into /opt, but now we are proposing something more suitable for Fedora. We'd like to use as an installation path /usr/scl/ as prefix for collection. Inside of /usr/scl will be directories based on name of collection, for example ruby_1.8.7. After it will be accepted, we will rewrite our macros to match Fedora needs. Thank you, Marcela
For FPC members, please note that I added the disclaimer admon at the top, and this page should be considered without the disclaimer admon.
Marcela, we opted not to review this ticket in today's meeting (we ran out of time and barely had quorum). We will consider this at our next meeting in two weeks.
Actually, the placement of the files under /opt/rh or /opt/fedora should still be in play. According to FHS [1], this should be ideal for placement of stack packages (which in fact are addon application software packages) - therefore we would like to ask for an exception for stacks.
Thanks, Bohuslav "Slavek" Kabrda.

Agreed, /opt/fedora seems more appropriate. Maybe we want to reserve "fedora" in the Linux Assigned Names And Numbers Authority in order to distinguish it from Red Hat:

We'd like to prepare more suitable proposal. I'm closing this one.
