#983 Two latexmk packages in Fedora
Closed None Opened 11 years ago by jjames.

= phenomenon =
I added a latexmk package to Fedora in 2007. (It was my first package, so I'm rather fond of it. Watch out for extreme bias in the rest of this message.) The recent TeXLive 2012 update added texlive-latexmk, texlive-latexmk-bin, and texlive-latexmk-doc packages. They Obsolete and Provide latexmk.

I do not believe proper procedure was followed in this case. At least, nobody ever contacted me or filed a bug to let me know that my package was going to be obsoleted. I discovered the issue myself while creating an F-18 VM. At that point, I filed this bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=868996

Jindrich claimed to have fixed the problem but, as I noted in the bug, I don't think it has been fixed enough. Meanwhile, we have two conflicting and redundant latexmk packages in Fedora 18 and Rawhide. I would like to ask FESCO to decide which of the 2 packages should remain in the repository.

Need to investigate why texlive latexmk is still preferred. I have abolutely no problem to prefer separately packaged latexmk over the texlive variant if maintainer wishes.

This looks sorted out now with the latest texlive update.
