= Introduction =
As we have quite a few review bugs needing sponsors, I (Jussi Lehtola) would like to nominate Martin Gieseking (FAS name 'mgieseki', one of my sponsorees) as a candidate for packaging group sponsor.
= Qualifications =
Although Martin only maintains few packages (see pkgdb [https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/users/packages/mgieseki here], reviews [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?component=Package%20Review&emailreporter1=1&emailtype1=exact&email1=martin.gieseking@uos.de here]), he has demonstrated his knowledge of Fedora packaging and his willingness to help people in the 41 [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?component=Package%20Review&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=exact&email1=martin.gieseking@uos.de package reviews] he has performed so far. Martin is also otherwise active as the developer of [http://dvisvgm.sourceforge.net/ dvisvgm].
For these reasons, I think he is ready to become a sponsor.
Sent to sponsors list for feedback.
+1
And what does Martin say about Jussi's nomination? I want to know Martin's opinion for this and if he really wants to sponsor some new contributors once he is added to sponsor members.
An excellent point. I am adding him to CC here for input. ;)
Thanks Jussi for the nomination (Jussi had previously ask me by email whether I'm willing to become a sponsor). I'm glad to hear you think I'm ready to mentor new packagers. If desired, I'd like to help in this area.
If I became a sponsor I would certainly sponsor new packagers, otherwise a promotion to the new role wouldn't be of much use. :) However, I would start with just one or two candidates to see how much time it takes and how I can handle the additional tasks in my spare time. One of the first candidates would be Lars Bjørndal who submitted two packages ([https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597597 liblouis] and [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=615783 liblouisxml]).
Thank you, Martin.
Now +1 from me.
Martin cares a lot about new contributors. Even if he is not allowed to do reviews of first timers yet (as he is not a sponsor), he often gets the ball rolling by looking at the packages. His comments are a valuable resource for the new contributors and he explains every issue and enhancement very carefully.
With 3 +1's and no -1's this request is approved. ;)
Congrats Martin. Use your powers for good!
Thanks to all supporters for your positive votes and the kind comments! I'll give my best to keep helping in the Fedora packaging/development department.
