Closed None Opened 13 years ago by sgrubb.

= Proposal topic =
I would like to join the packager sponsor group.

Hey Steve.

Can you switch the template/type here to "Sponsor Request" and fill in the info ?

Basically:

= Full Name =

Please provide your full name here. The existing sponsors that review your request are much less grumpy if it's here :)

= Qualifications =

Please list your qualifications that would make you a good sponsor

= Rationale =

Do you have anyone you immediately wish to sponsor? What other rationale do you have?

Once we have that I can forward to the sponsors list for feedback.

Thanks.

= Full Name =

Steve Grubb sgrubb@redhat.com

= Qualifications =

I have been packaging for Fedora and RHEL for > 5 years. I lead a team of developers.

= Rationale =

I need to bring in security related projects to Fedora from time to time. An immediate need is to bring in the secstate project for a Fedora Feature proposal.

Can you provide some links for the rationale? There is some confusion about what you want to do.

Do you want to complete [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/OpenSCAP OpenSCAP feature] by sponsoring some people who submit packages that are needed for this feature?

Do you want to sponsor Marshall Miller, who submitted the [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=609688 secstate review request]? Are there other future maintainers you want to sponsor?

Yes, I am trying to help round out the OpenSCAP feature since I coordinate our SCAP activities. I would like to sponsor Marshall Miller so that when package review is complete they can start building. But I also talk to other people about security projects and Fedora. My main options right now is to package it up and be the maintainer or assign it to someone on my team. But I would also like to bring other responsible people into the Fedora community so that they can contribute and share the work.

This request seems to have fallen into the cracks.

Till: Did you get the info you were seeking?

I can re-mail sponsors for feedback with the added rationale?
Steve: Anything you care to update or add before I do so?

I was actually asking, because other sponsors were wondering.

I can re-mail sponsors for feedback with the added rationale?

This seems to be the next step afaics.

Steve: Anything you care to update or add before I do so?

I investigated a little: It seems that the rationale can now be shortened to
"I would also like to bring other responsible people into the Fedora community so that they can contribute and share the work.", because secstate has been reviewed and Marshall Miller has been sponsored by Tomas Mraz afaics and the OpenSCAP feature does not have any dependencies listed:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/OpenSCAP

There is not much to add. The openscap project was able to get secstate through the hoops. But this is not the first time we wanted to add maintainers rather than become the maintainer. So, my interest is in having the ability in the future so we can meet our goals. Thanks.

Re-sent to sponsors list for more feedback.

What is the status of this request? I have another packager that I need to bring into the Fedora Community. Thanks.

It failed to garner sufficent votes. ;(

Would you like to try again? Perhaps asking any other sponsors you know and have worked with to vote for you?

I guess after 16 months without any activity on this ticket, it can be closed now.
