#283 Proven packager request -- mef (Mary Ellen Foster)

Please consider me for membership in the proven packager group

= Overview =

I am currently working on adding a number of new Java packages to Fedora in support of eventually including the Sesame2 backend of the Soprano library, which is the basis of the KDE semantic desktop framework. A number of these packages use Maven as a build tool. In order to build a Fedora package using Maven, all of the dependent packages need to include a small amount of Maven metadata -- see http://mairi-ruadh.livejournal.com/63729.html for details.

I have been filing bugs on all of the dependent packages which need metadata included, but so far I have had very little response from packagers -- see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=maven%20depmap%20fragments&classification=Fedora&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED for the list of bugs dating back to October.

The required changes to the packages in question are generally very small -- adding the required metadata fragments adds maybe 10 lines to the spec file, and simply involves adding one more file to the RPM, with no changes to the build process itself or the other files.

I therefore request provenpackager access so that I can make the necessary changes to the affected packages.

= Problem space =

Currently the inclusion of new Java packages into Fedora is being held up even if the dependent packages are already included, because they lack metadata.

Please make Mary Ellen Foster a proven packager. We really need help for getting all the packages in a good shape for Maven builds.

overwhelming consensus is in favor.

How about we not wait 2 weeks for the next meeting and get fesco's vote here?

+1 from me.

Fine here as well. +1 here.
She's doing good work.

+1, since this is five, I'll do this now.

For the record, +1 from me too, both as a FESCo member and as a sponsor. Her motivation is valid and she seems to know what she's doing.
