#246 Request to become provenpackager - tbzatek

= Rationale =

I am member of the Core Desktop Team here in Red Hat, working on Gnome in general. Apart of my packages I often need to include a fix in other Gnome packages or I'm just helping other team mates with related work. Last night I needed to build fixed gnome-user-share packages and had to bother the owner to give me commit rights. This slows down the process especially before alpha/beta/final freeze, where last-minute fix needs to be included.

Ideally there should be a new desktop packagers group for Gnome contributors and pkgdb ability to add group ACL for some packages. I don't intend to touch packages out of desktop scope.

Now, please take into consideration that I'm not full-time bugfixer and want to focus more on development or fixing major glitches. I've got about 158 open bugs now. Many of them are stale and potential candidates for "Unresponsive maintainer" actions. This is all about priority and company targets. Some packages I own are only "parked in my garage" as nobody else wants them and still they're integral part of the desktop. We usually don't fix bugs but do upstream updates for them.

Thanks,
Tomas

I'll most likely miss today's meeting, so here's my vote:

+1 for this proposal, this strikes me as a valid rationale for provenpackager. Sure, we'd like to have group ACLs instead, but for now this is the best solution. I think we can trust Tomáš not to run around committing random stuff to KDE or other non-GNOME-related packages. ;-)

From the 08-28 meeting:
AGREED: tbzatek provenpackager is approved (jds2001, 17:04:30)
