#235 Apcupsd - static linking
Closed None Opened 14 years ago by mhlavink.

Apcupsd is UPS control daemon. Apcupsd should be executed before turning off the computer when disks are umounted. This requires apcupsd in root fs with all it's dependencies. There are some libraries that are in /usr/lib so these libraries need to be statically linked.

Please approve static linking.

For more info see bug #346271

Are we even supportting seperate /usr anymore? Does anyone still do that?

The part we definitely prefer to not support is local-/ network-/usr.
It makes things simpler to not support any separate /usr, but that's usually not as big of a deal.

I don't know anything about unsupported separate /usr

Sorry this didn't get on the agenda last week. If it makes you feel any better, we probably wouldn't have gotten to it anyways :)

Anyhow, throwing it back on the agenda for this week, and making a note that I most certainly use a separate /usr on almost all of my systems. Same disk, different fs.

This was news to me too, but [http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f11/en-US/html/s2-diskpartrecommend-x86.html#sn-partitioning-advice here it is in the Installation Guide]. Apparently it's a problem for iSCSI and some other environments, not for local disk installations.

I'd be OK with this (I won't be a the meeting.)

This request was declined, as a separate /usr is not supported.
