#1538 nonresponsive maintainer: ivazquez
Closed None Opened 8 years ago by dshea.

= phenomenon =
Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams (FAS ivazquez, bugzilla ivazqueznet@gmail.com) has not, by any evidence I can find, participated in Fedora for some time. I would like the packages for which he is listed as point of contact to be assigned to other people or, if no one is willing to take them over, orphaned.

= background analysis =
The package where I began this is python-polib. I opened a bug (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1287273) on 2015-12-01 requesting that it be updated to the latest version. The request was eventually taken care of by other people (pnemade who is a provenpackager, and dchen who, though not listed as a co-maintainer on the Fedora branches, has commit access), but there has been no response from Ignacio. I have attempted to contact Ignacio via the bug, via email sent to the address on his FAS account on 2016-01-07, and via a message sent to devel@lists.fedoraproject.org on 2016-01-18. I have received no response.

His other packages have been similarly abandoned and maintained by the community in a piecemeal fashion when the problems become a crisis.

edsadmin: last updated by ivazquez on 2008-12-01. There have since been 17 bugs closed as end-of-life with no response.

gtkparasite: last updated by ivazquez on the initial import on 2009-01-20. There have been 5 EOL bugs, though two of them are about gtk3 support which is less relevant now that gtk3 has the inspector built in.

oflb-riordonfancy-fonts: last updated by ivazquez on 2009-04-14. There hasn't been a new version since then and it's not like a font package needs a lot of maintenance, but there is a bug open (1237179) since 2015-06-30 to add a dist tag to the spec file.

purple-plugin_pack: last updated by ivazquez on 2009-01-04. There's, I dunno, like 20-30 EOL bugs, I don't feel like figuring out which of the WONTFIX's were the old EOL bot. There's also an open bug, opened this week, to ship an AppData file, and there has been a new upstream version since 2013-02-20.

python-polib: just the aforementioned bug for a new upstream version. Last updated by ivazquez on the initial import on 2009-03-04.

ghost-diagrams has not had any bugs or changes since the last update.

pywebkitgtk: last updated by ivazquez on 2009-08-28. There appears to be only 1 EOL'd bug.

xmlcopyeditor: last updated by ivazquez on 2011-05-20. There are a bunch of EOL'd bugs, but most are probably moot since the package was updated to the latest upstream by adamw on 2015-07-30 when it became necessary to build against a new version of boost.

= implementation recommendation =

Some of the packages already have other users with commit access who may be willing to take over as the point of contact. nushio has commit access to purple-plugin_pack, dchen and diegobz have access to python-polib. walters has requested access to pywebkitgtk but not yet been granted it.

If no one else is willing to take over python-polib I am willing to take it.

The other packages should be orphaned and left to the whims of the community, lest they continue to rot and occasionally throw a wrench into the release process.

+1 to orphan ivazquez's packages.

Yeah, +1 to orphan and find new points of contact for these packages.

Hopefully he will be back someday.

ok, thats +6, so I have done this.
