#1497 Provenpackager request
Closed None Opened 8 years ago by zvetlik.

Hi, I am Zuzana, I am responsible for Node.js software collection and I also contribute to fedora Node.js stack. I have experience with packaging for fedora and epel, I currently own over 20 packages and I've done several reviews and I will surely make many more.

= Reason =

Fedora community can't keep pace with Node.js upstream, resulting in many outdated and buggy packages, including packages like nodejs and npm. Requesting privileges for every package that needs updating/fix is unreal, since there are hundreds of packages and maintainers are often unresponsive.

example bugs: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1272576
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1192647
https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/9644

= Recommendation =

Make me a proven packager so I can help maintaining Node.js packages in fedora

Thank you!

There is currently a conversation going on in the Node.js SIG about having a Node.js commit group created that will have permissions on all of the Node.js packages (similar to how the PERL SIG works). There seems to be a general consensus that this is the best course of action for this set of packages, so this request for provenpackager may prove unnecessary (Zuzana will almost certainly be added to the Node.js SIG group once it is created).

That group now exists. :)

Do you want to withdraw this request? Or should I mail sponsors for feedback?

Provenpackager would be probably useless for me now, I'll resubmit the request if I'll need it.
