#1450 F23 System Wide Change: Python 3 as the Default Implementation
Closed None Opened 8 years ago by jkurik.

For the 2015-06-17 meeting as the Change Proposal was announced on devel-announce list on 2015-06-10.

Up until now, Fedora has used Python 2 as the default Python implementation. This change proposes switching to Python 3. The details of the term "switching" are explained thoroughly in the Scope section of the Change proposal.

I’m not sure I will be able to join today’s meeting; +1 except that if I understand the mailing list conversation correctly, the conclusion was to ship both Python 2 and 3 in the Atomic host images.

AGREED: table this for followup with the Change owners, we need to define the end game, and make the change reflective of what will actually be delivered in Fedora 23, ideally with some kind of rough plan to get to the end game (+5,0,0)

  • AGREED: let's make python3 the only python interpreter on default
    installs (+5, 0, -1) (thozza, 18:27:02)
  • Supplementary proposal to treat python2-only work as a bug in the
implementation had insufficient votes (+2, 0, -3) (sgallagh,
    18:30:40)
