#1343 non-responsive Scala maintainer
Closed None Opened 9 years ago by willb.

= phenomenon =

I had opened a non-responsive maintainer BZ (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1017400) for the Scala package last fall when it failed to build on F20, but stopped the process after the comaintainer appeared on fedora-devel and agreed to incorporate my fixes. However, Scala FTBFS again and the comaintainer is no longer responsive. (The package owner, Geoff Reedy, has never responded to attempts to reach him via email or twitter and has been inactive in Fedora for some time, including ignoring all co-maintainer requests on the Scala package; see here: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/scala/.)

Since I have already filed a bug, failed to contact the original maintainer, and contacted Fedora-devel (see here: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2013-September/189110.html), I would like to resume the process now by formally requesting to take over the package.

= reason =

I have many packages that depend on Scala and have patched Scala to build again on F21. I am willing to take over as maintainer and have a colleague who will comaintain with me.

= recommendation =

I would like to take ownership of the Scala package in Fedora.

(One more note: it appears that the Scala maintainer hasn't built anything since 2010: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/userinfo?userID=676)

This ticket has now been open for more than three days with no objections. Is a FESCo member willing to give it a +1 so that I can proceed with fixing this package?

Yeah, +1 from me, and adding the meeting keyword just to be sure we go over it tomorrow.

I put this on the meeting agenda, but I guess actually the +1 is sufficient. So, go ahead with the SCM admin request. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_SCM_admin_requests
