#123 gdal needs to be opened up *now*
Closed None Opened 15 years ago by jwrdegoede.

Hi,

I know you are working on opening up all (almost all) packages to provenpackager, but gdal really
needs to be opened up now. It is the cause of many broken deps in rawhide, and it would be nice
to get those fixed before the beta.

I encountered this problem while looking into fixing the broken deps caused by my (somewhat late)
bump of ImageMagick, which came with a soname change. It turns out that most of the broken
deps are not due to the ImageMagick change, but are caused by the gdal issue.

This has been reported and several pings have been made here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=488490

I just noticed in the bug that a similar request has been made to rel-eng, not sure what is the correct path for this.

I had a conversation on IRC with Jesse about this last night - if there's a patch that works (which from the above bugzilla it looks like there's a patch that mostly works, but why disable GRASS support? Is it fundamentally broken?) he'll apply it and build. He's not comfortable opening up ACL's behind a maintainer's back.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, Lubomir is going to attempt to call the maintainer on the phone today, as they're both in Brno right now.

Ok, the reason to disable GRASS support is there is a circular dependency GRASS requires gdal, which requires GRASS to be build with GRASS support, so the full fix (as discussed in the BZ) would be to rebuild gdal without GRASS (which the patch in the rel-eng ticket does), then rebuild GRASS, and then rebuild gdal again with GRASS re-enabled.

Still closed... :-(

I've re-opened ticket #10 which was about opening up all packages that didn't have a FESCo-ratified justification for remaining closed until the ACLs are actually changed.

The mass open occurred, closing this
