#121 Keep popt and ethtool non-provenpackager committable
Closed None Opened 15 years ago by robert.

Please keep the packages popt and ethtool non-provenpackager committable.

Both are very basic packages installed with each buildroot environment and with every Fedora system out there. Non-careful changes can break a lot of things and can easily mess up the system.

So popt is e.g. required by rpm, GNOME, samba other "core" packages and all that other stuff (rpm -e --test popt) around. As it is very important not to break ABI, which easily can happen with user suggested patches out there, so all changes should only be done by knowledged people working very closed with popt upstream.

And similar applies to ethtool, it's required by initscripts and people can get very cranky if something around network gets unwanted broken. Changes and backports also should only happen by people working very closed with ethtool upstream.

IIRC ethtool currently isn't protected, but it IMHO should be. Popt is provenpackager protected since ever AFAIK.

This exception was declined.
