#1114 Would like to become a provenpackager

Need to become a provenpackager.

= reason =

I am one of the co-maintainers for pki-core and the relevant dogtag builds. Over that couple of years, we decided to include add new RESTful interface using RESTEasy,

That meant working with mgoldmann, akurtakov, jhernand and others in getting the required Java dependencies into Fedora and subsequently into RHEL. I am currently the maintainer of RESTEasy, and am the proud owner of a whole slew of these packages in RHEL. In many cases, I am the owner of these packages in RHEL, but not the owner in Fedora.

In order to fix RHEL 7 failures to build, I need to be able to modify upstream java packages. I will of course, work with the Fedora owners when possible.

How many packages are we talking about? It sounds to me like if it's a reasonably small number, you should instead ask to be added as a maintainer of those packages. Given that you are maintaining those packages for RHEL, I imagine most of the maintainers will be welcoming. (And if they are not, giving you provenpackager powers over their package is not going to endear you to them).

Now, if we're talking about three dozen packages with minimally-responsive maintainers, that might be a different story.

Well, I probably own or co-own about 40 packages or so in RHEL. I could be added as co-maintainer of those packages, but very often the problem is in other packages that are in the Java stack. Things like dependencies having to be removed etc.

The Java stack maintainer guys - who own something like 250 of these collectively - and who are provenpackagers themselves presumably -- are pretty responsive - and I would continue to work closely with them - in doing any kind of change. In fact, my preference most of the time would be that they do anything but the most simple changes.

But it was on their suggestion -- sochotni, akurtakov - that I request provenpackager status.

Not enough response - marking as meeting item.

This passed at the 2013-05-22 FESCo meeting.

Note -- I asked in #fedora-java about this and akuratov replied that he would have +1's in the ticket but he didn't associate vakwetu with the person in question. If there's a template for these requests, perhaps we could ask for submitters to put in their real name as well.
