I assume the old firefox-devel was dragged in by the gecko-devel provide, instead of xulrunner-devel. Works fine when built locally with mock.

I don't think so. If I recall correctly it could be fixed by specifying a dependency directly on xulrunner-*-devel instead of expecting yum to pick the package whose N is defferent, but EVR bigger.
