#616 No direct link for login into FAS
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by rbhalera.

There is no direct link found on the fedoraproject.org homepage. Besides there is no link on even the "Join Fedora" page. "Join Fedora" page has link for account setup but not for logging in. You get the link only after going inside the items on "Join Fedora" page, e.g. on account setup page. Ideally the "Log In" link should be on the same page as that of "Sign Up" link or even on the homepage itself. The lack of direct link means you have to either remember the long link or keep it in bookmarks. May be we should correct this for making the interface more simple for users and contributors.

[P.S. Similar problem is observed on fedorahosted.org as well where login is possible only after visiting homepage of any of the hosted projects, not on the homepage of the site itself, whereas the login is valid across the projects.]

We need to think about how we should shape the join process. At the moment, creating a FAS account is not the first step for joining the project - the first step is to get on the mailing lists, meeting people, etc. That's why FAS is currently not linked from the join page. This is definitely open to more discussion, though.

In the case of hosted, I think Nigel is working on getting rid of basic auth for Trac, so the login page would have a link to FAS. I'm CCing him on this ticket now.

This ticket can be closed, because the FAS account is not the first step is not necessary. In the wiki we have access to the FAS, when we see the instructions for joining the teams.
