#5432 Fedocal - No more "duplicate" channels
Closed: Fixed None Opened 7 years ago by jflory7.

= phenomenon =

Going through Fedocal, there's two "fedora-meeting@irc.freenode.net" options that appear to be identical. One is populated with meetings, and the other only has a handful. The difference is just a space in the beginning of the meeting location.

  • "fedora-meeting@irc.freenode.net"
  • " fedora-meeting@irc.freenode.net"

= background analysis =

I was able to edit and fix some of the meetings that were using the incorrect location. However, there's currently just one left by the G11N team (and I am unable to edit it).

The [https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/meeting/3856/ meeting] was created by pravins (who I CC'd to this ticket). Only he or another Fedocal admin will be able to edit that meeting's location to the correct channel. Once this is done, Fedocal should drop the incorrect meeting location and prevent it from being offered as a suggestion, making sure everyone is being consistent and using the right channel (and preventing meeting overlaps).

= implementation recommendation =

  1. Original event creator or Fedocal admin edits [https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/meeting/3856/ this meeting]
  2. Change " fedora-meeting@irc.freenode.net" to "fedora-meeting@irc.freenode.net"
  3. Save
  4. "Duplicate" channel should be removed from Fedocal

Ok, I cleaned that location in the db and took the opportunity to drop as well not there or planet mars to try to keep the list somewhat clean.

Thanks for the heads-up! :)
