#5333 Bugzilla sync on fedoraproject.org alias
Closed: Fixed None Opened 7 years ago by ctubbsii.

= phenomenon =
Changing bugzilla email address to the @fedoraproject.org alias triggers a warning email entitled "Please fix your bugzilla.redhat.com account" because the email address does not "match your current email in the Fedora account system".

= reason =
This is annoying, because "current email" is not well-defined, and it most certainly matches the packager's Fedora email alias. It just doesn't match the forwarding address, which can change relatively frequently.

= recommendation =
Ideally, packagers should be able to log in to Bugzilla using the Fedora OpenID system, and their email automatically be linked to their Fedora alias, so this wouldn't be an issue.

However, short of that, it would at least be useful if group membership/permissions in Bugzilla were tied to FAS alias OR forwarding address, generally. I think this should be an infrastructure-wide change.

In the meantime, it would be helpful for me personally, if my Bugzilla permissions were tied to my @fedoraproject.org alias (ctubbsii) so I don't have to widely broadcast my forwarding address or update my Bugzilla email every time my forwarding address changed.

So, as discussed on the list, there's 2 things coming up that should help this a lot:

  • bugzilla 5.0 will support SAML logins, so we should be able to tell it what email is tied to what user.

and

  • FAS 3.0 is coming that will have a seperate bugzilla email (defaulting to the same as your fas one, but you can change it to whatever you like).

In the mean time, shall we just add you to our exceptions? Or did you want to wait for those things?

I'd prefer to be added to the exceptions in the meantime. Thank you.

Also, it appears that the notification for this occurs every 2 hours. I'm guessing that's how frequently BZ permissions are sync'd, based on email addresses, but it might be better to reduce the frequency of these email notifications, just so they don't get misidentified as spam by email providers.

I appear to still be getting a message about this every 2 hours, for the last 5 days (56 emails so far). I know this isn't a high priority issue, but if I could be added to the exceptions soon-ish, my inbox would appreciate it. Thanks!

Yeah, really sorry for the delay here. ;(

I put in a freeze break request to get this updated. We should have it done here soon...

Note that I actually get 2 emails for every one you do. ;) It mails me a copy and also a error output from the script, so yeah, I want to fix it too. :)

ok should be all set now.

Sorry for the long delay again.
