#5304 Subscribe a mailing list to an RSS feed
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 7 years ago by jflory7.

= Problem =

The social-media mailing list is used for alerting social media administrators to new content to post to our pages and channels. There are RSS feeds that are actively producing content, like the Community Blog and Fedora Magazine.

It would be useful to have a way to subscribe the mailing list to these RSS feeds to receive automatic postings of new content.

= Analysis =

This might also be related to [https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/208 Marketing Ticket #208] and [https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-commops/ticket/15 CommOps Ticket #15].

= Enhancement Recommendation =

Is there a way we can securely subscribe the mailing lists to WordPress-specific feeds to accomplish this?

I can think of a few different ways to do this...

1) a wordpress plugin. Perhaps https://wordpress.org/plugins/subscribe2 ? It can then mail everytime a post goes live and you just make sure the list(s) are subscribed there.

2) we could run something like rss2email, but then we would have to figure out a place to run it and would have to maintain it and such.

I prefer the first option...

I think the first option is also the most feasible. Since puiterwijk is the point of contact for the Magazine / CommBlog, I'd also like to get a +1 from him on this first before installing the plugin. This seems like the best way to do it to me.

@jflory7 I don't like extra plugins, but sure. Let's go with it for now...

@jflory7 you can do the installs?

Let us know if you need anything further here.
