#5183 disable feedback form on ask fedora
Closed: Fixed None Opened 8 years ago by mattdm.

= problem =

People use this form and sometimes have legitimate issues. Usually, they don't leave an email address, as that is an optional field.

= analysis =

I never know what to put in the "analysis" section of this template. I guess...

"So, that sucks."

= enhancement recommendation =

We could require an email address, but I think it'd be better to direct them elsewhere. Specifically, for questions about the site and its functioning, to use Ask itself and the "meta" tag. (Since we lack a separate meta site.) And for questions about infrastructure issues, maybe send them right to this trac or to IRC.

We should point them somewhere else instead -- probably the Infrastructure website, or maybe even this Trac.

ok, I took a quick look at this.

We can override the internal 'feedback' form by giving it a url to send people to instead.

I have modified https://ask.stg.fedoraproject.org to point the 'feedback' link back to itself, and then I modified the text we have about asking questions to include a point about using 'meta' tag if you have questions about the site itself.

Can you take a look and see if this will work? If so I will do it in prod too, if not, we can revise.

I think its better to point back to ask and ask people to use meta than to point to infra trac (as a I bet a lot of the questions won't really be bugs, but more how do things work).

That seems better than the current situation. The text about the meta tag is unlikely to actually be read except by very diligent fine-print readers. Any way to link to the form with "meta" already filled in?

Yep. There sure is. ;)

(by appending /?tags=meta)

I've done that in stg now. If that looks good I can make the change in production too...

Done in production now also.

Hi, it seems the issue has been resurfaced. Is there some regression?

We no longer run ask.fedoraproject.org directly. Instead, it's now hosted by the upstream author.

He has re-enabled the feedback form and reads/acts on it.
