#4711 Too much spam ending up in sssd-devel and sssd-users queues
Closed: Fixed None Opened 8 years ago by jhrozek.

= bug description =
I haven't found a more generic version of this ticket, so I'm filing one sssd specific.

Starting a couple of weeks ago, we've started receiving much more spam to sssd-devel and sssd-users lists than usual. I would estimate sssd-devel now receives about 2 spam attempts per hour and sssd-users about 1 per hour. This is getting tedious and we risk weeding out a legitimate mail from the queue.

= bug analysis =
Most of the spam looks like an outright spam attempt on the first sight. Maybe the filters could just be stricter by default?

While spamassassin is running you need to configure your lists to use it.

See:

Can you configure that to your tastes and see if it solves the issue?

Thanks, I've implemented the change and I'll watch the list to see if there's been any effect.

Feel free to close this ticket for now as appropriate by your process.

I'll go ahead and close it then... feel free to re-open or comment still however (I'm cc'ed on all ticket comments).

Hi,

I just wanted to say thanks because the number of spam in moderation decreased dramatically, maybe going from 30+ spam messages a day to ~5 a day. We haven't received a single complaint about overly eager spam filter either.

Is there a reason this config is not the default for fedorahosted mailing lists?

Well, dealing with mailman2 is a pain to set that kind of thing, and I was hoping we would move to hyperkitty before too long.

There's a ticket to set defaults on new lists:

https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/4582

feel free to follow along there.
