#3456 Wiki URL change request
Closed: Fixed None Opened 11 years ago by cicku.

Can we make a achange of wiki url to:

http://wiki.fedoraproject.org/xxx

instead of:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/xxx

?

I've check many linux project website and they all use this type of url.So I think we can change it.I think after the change the url is more "formal"...

Just my opinion.

Well, if we were setting this service up right now, I would be ok with changing the url, but I think it's too much work for not enough gain now that it's up and been there for many years.

We would have to maintain redirects from the old links.

We would have to change tons of docs and other things, some of which we couldn't easily change.

And all we gain is perhaps some more standardized url. :(

So, thanks for the idea, but it's just too much work to do at this point for not enough gain.

Can't a wiki.fp.o domain still be set up as a redirect to the current wiki? I find myself typing "wiki.fedoraproject.org" in all the time and this would be a helpful redirect.

I don't think we want to get into the business of a bunch of redirects.

This will cause things like: "The wiki is down" when it's a redirect issue and not a real application issue, causing a lot of confusion.

Also, people will start mixing the two up and there will not be a 'real' location where the wiki is, you would have some people saying one thing and others another. It's just going to confuse everyone.

You could possibly setup a local /etc/hosts entry for yourself that 'aliases' this for you?
