#2913 Is it possible to use some of the idle PPC builders for the PPC secondary arch project ?
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by karsten.

= problem =
The PPC secondary project currently has only two builders, one of them on the same machine as the koji hub. Both are usually running at full load.
At the same we have several PPC builders that are currently only used for EPEL and maybe noarch builds that are mostly idling along (ppc??.phx2.fedoraproject.org).
I suspect that a dual use with two different koji hubs is not possible, but can some or maybe only one of them be reconfigured as secondary arch builders ?

= enhancement recommendation =

This may indeed be possible. We need to see if we can configure the switches in our older blade center to put some of the ppc blades on your network.

This will need to wait for the current freeze to be over and a maint window scheduled as we need to reconfigure things and I don't want to do that during a freeze. ;)

Thanks! No problem that it can't be done immediately, I'm glad you're even considering doing it ;-)

I had agreement from mmcgrath a long time ago to do this. Unfortunately, the secondary architecture effort wasn't alive enough to actually switch some over. Glad to see it is now.

Just to provide a status update here:

We are trying to get another of our ppc blades working. If we can get that setup and functioning, we can look at changing vlan settings on all the old ones to hand them off to you guys.

We will need to figure some logistics at that point:

  • Do you just want them the way they are now? rhel6 boxes, setup as koji builders.

  • Are you going to want them long term? or just until you get caught up on builds?

  • Are you going to want us to do any management/configuration/monitoring on them?

Just things to think about...

Yes, our other build box is also RHEL6, that'll be fine. We only need to reconfigure koji so that it talks to the PPC hub.

If they aren't needed - long term until they are required for EPEL or other stuff again.

The only thing that I would like to ask the infrastructure team to do is to reconfigure koji for the secondary arch hub, that's all.

Status update:

I have removed ppc05-ppc10 from our koji.
I need to get their vlans changed and get them re-installed to make sure none of our data is lingering on them then I can start handing them off to you guys. ;)

So, we are making progress... will let you know when there are machines to add.

ok. We have ppc05.qa.fedoraproject.org (at 10.5.124.193) newly re-installed and ready to use.

I'm going to mail you access info. Please get in and confirm all will work for you guys and then we can get you ppc06-10 also.

Thanks,

ppc05.qa is now enabled as a secondary arch PPC builder and has already built some packages without problems.

excellent. We will get you ppc06-ppc10 next week. ;)

ok. The following are ready:

ppc06.qa - 10.5.124.194
ppc07.qa - 10.5.124.195
ppc08.qa - 10.5.124.196
ppc09.qa - 10.5.124.197

All have the pass I emailed you before and are ready to setup. ;)

We have another one, but it's not powering on right for me, so I fear it's dead in the water at this point. If we can get it going we can set it up for you.
Also, ppc06 only has 1 disk, not 2 like the rest (I have no idea why).

Take a look and confirm you have them all working and then feel free to close this out, unless there's anything else you need from them.

That worked like a charm now that I know how to add a builder to koji,
ppc06 - ppc09 are already building packages without any problems.

Thanks !
