#2840 stale update in F14 updates-testing: libedit-3.0-2.20090923cvs.fc14
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by kdudka.

= phenomenon =
No chance to get libedit-3.0-2.20090923cvs.fc14 to stable.

= background analysis =
I fixed a bug in ~2 hours. Additional ~2 hours took me the fight with broken Fedora infrastructure. The update then landed in F14 updates-testing. Nothing changed on the update for more than a month, push to stable still impossible. Additionally, I am being spammed by updates@fedoraproject.org -- one e-mail each day, no new information inside.

= implementation recommendation =
1) Get the update out.[[BR]]
2) Fix the spamming engine in order to send e-mails only when something happens.[[BR]]
3) Improve the update process such that it addresses situations like this.[[BR]]

Thanks in advance!

Odd.

  1. The email you get is just empty?

  2. Is there no 'submit to stable' button when you login to the interface?

  3. If you edit the update and request stable what happens?

Adding lmacken here for comment.

First off, libedit-3.0-2.20090923cvs.fc14 doesn't exist anywhere in bodhi, so I assume you mean libedit-3.0-3.20090923cvs.fc14? (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F14/FEDORA-2011-6605)

Since it's a critical path update, you need a proventester to +1 it before it can go to stable (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_update_acceptance_criteria#Updates_to_.27critical_path.27_packages).

an e-mail I get every day for more than a month as a thank your for fixing a bug
[[Fedora Update] [CRITPATH] [old_testing_critpath] libedit-3.0-3.20090923cvs.mbox](/fedora-infrastructure/issue/raw/files/043da534e9e4a4d24ebbd53e6b91af152f073bd7b666b50025192e1c4c4bfe7e-Fedora_Update_CRITPATH_old_testing_critpath_libedit-3.0-3.20090923cvs.mbox)

No, but every day with exactly same contents. See the attachment.

  1. Is there no 'submit to stable' button when you login to the interface?

No.

  1. If you edit the update and request stable what happens?

Nothing happens. It neither reports an error, neither does anything useful.

You are right, off-by-one error.

Since it's a critical path update, you need a proventester to +1 it before it can go to stable (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_update_acceptance_criteria#Updates_to_.27critical_path.27_packages).

The wiki page does not suggest what to do in my situation, neither you do.

You need to get (1) proventester to test your update and add +1 karma.

I'd suggest dropping a note to the test list and ask if someone could test, or ask over in #fedora-qa on IRC. It likely got lost in the activity around f15 release... but hopefully it won't take someone too long to test it.

Failing that I could go test it later... I'll check back at the end of the day. ;)

I see there was a easy reproduction test case in the bug. ;) Adding karma now.

Kevin, thanks for taking care of this update. Nevertheless, the buggy behavior of Bodhi persists I am afraid. Notifications are supposed to be sent when something happens, not once a day for nothing.
