#2654 http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/ space request

= phenomenon =
Fedora 14 DVD install image for x86_64 does not boot on UEFI systems. Intel is trying to use Fedora install DVDs internally and externally to demonstrate UEFI support.

= background analysis =
For one reason or another, UEFI boot support was disabled on the Fedora 14 DVD media. I believe the reason was because it caused failures in some test cases or on certain systems.

We provide a USB boot image for UEFI systems, called efidisk.img. This works fine, but Intel has requested that we provide a UEFI-boot-capable Fedora 14 DVD so they can use that as well. They like having a standalone disc that they can boot and install Fedora from.

While brainstorming with them, I showed them how to create a UEFI-bootable image then thought about just posting the one I made somewhere. /pub/alt came to mind.

= implementation recommendation =
I would like a subdirectory under /pub/alt called 'uefi' where I can place a DVD iso image and checksum file. I'd like it under /pub/alt so that it's clear it's not really part of the official release trees.

Basically what I've done is taken the Fedora-14-x86_64-DVD.iso and rebuilt it to support booting on UEFI-only systems. The resulting image is named Fedora-14-x86_64-DVD-UEFI.iso

Space requirements are that of a single DVD image plus a checksum file (well, actually, a SHA256SUMS file). The image weighs in at 3.4G.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that the other goal here was to give Intel something they can use before Fedora 15 GA. So if we can set this up soon, that would be really helpful for them.

So, we would be happy to put this there, but there's an issue: We can't really distribute this as a Fedora image without it getting approval for the trademark, etc. :(

So, options:

1) Use generic-logos and call it a UEFI-remix or something. Then there are no Fedora trademarks in it and no problem. ;)

2) Talk with the spins sig/board and ask them to approve this as a spin. I don't know that that would be something that would help given your timeframe. ;(

Thoughts?

This is old and got handled another way.
