#1670 wiki: "Printable version" not suitable for printing
Closed: Fixed None Opened 14 years ago by kvolny.

Recently, I wanted to print a page (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/SysVInitScript) for offline study. So I had selected "Printable version" from the left side menu. But the resulting page is not suitable for printing, because:

  • the menu (on the left) is not hidden - I have no use for the menu, how do you click an item on the paper?

  • the user menu (on the top) is not hidden - how do I e.g. logout on the paper?

  • the wiki header is not hidden - how do I display e.g. the history of the page on the paper?

  • the page footer contains links to "Sponsors Legal Trademark Guidelines" - no use for this if I can't follow the links

  • there is blue bar at the top of the page and at the bottom of the page; while some may find it nice, it's quite annoying having to override the black/color mode automatic selection, as most printers work faster and cheaper in black only mode (if these stripes are the only thing in color)

  • I tried to print the page from Seamonkey, the "Printable version" was shown in black (except the abovementioned stripes), but the headings got printed in blue (while I haven't tested it thoroughly and it may be some Seamonkey bug, still, the suspicion goes to the website itself - where would Seamonkey got the blue color otherwise, it just doesn't put random colors every here and there ...?)

I've been playing around with this for a little bit and i have a few examples:
Fedora Wiki print - [http://sijis.fedorapeople.org/fpo-print.html][[BR]]

thanks, this looks a lot better, but still, I'd like to hide the bottom/footer part, and do not have the headers (like "Initscripts in spec file scriptlets") blue but rather black

I've updated the fp.o print.css stylesheet. Changes to that file would affect the wiki pages.
Printing the wiki pages should remove the left column and content menu.

yes, the menu is now gone, thanks

one little thing: for the preformatted text, there is no space on the left between the dashed line and the text (there is something like 1 character space in the "online" version) (tested both in Konqueror and Seamonkey)

I've taken your suggestions and I've updated the stylesheet. The changes should show up within an hour. Please retry again and provide feedback.

Thanks again.
