#1242 separate stand alone cross distribution projects and more fedora specific projects
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by pertusus.

I browsed through the groups list in FAS, the url being along
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts/group/list
(but with a csrf_token) and it seems to me that it would be better if the fedora project specific groups were different from project groups. I guess that the division line isn't easy for some groups, like gitbodhi but a project like augeas and similar other stand alone cross distro projects should be in a separate listing, in my opinion. The point is not to come with a perfect divide, but to have less groups to browse when searching for a specific fedora group when one think that it exists, but the name is not known.

This is clearly not an important task, I guess that there aren't many people browsing through the FAS account names, but I still think that it would be an interesting enhancement.

I am not very knowledgable in UI issues, so I won't make a proposal since I haven't seen an obvious place for the UI components that could help choose a group category over another.

This might be something to concentrate on doing on the wiki instead. We don't really think of FAS as the preferred interface for people to browse groups to get involved in. This will tie in with some of the work that the websites team wants to do with the new contributor join process though. CCing web-members.

I'm not sure there's anything here for us to act on.

The join process has been revamped...

For fedorahosted groups they are "SCMgroupname", but that only ever appears when they are needing access to scm repos. Lists and trac instances and all that are not gated on that for participation.

In any case, please do reopen or file a new ticket if there's some action we can take here...
